Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we snore?

Snoring arises when breathing is obstructed. This can be caused by a cold or an anatomical irregularity in the nose or throat. However, the most common cause of snoring is, that the muscles in and around the throat relax too much when we are asleep. This means that the opening in the throat becomes narrow, and air has difficulty in passing. As one requires the same amount of air to the lungs, the air intake speed increases. Pressure in the throat increases, and the uvula and soft palate begin to vibrate. The noise produced by these vibrations is called snoring. Therefore, snoring is a sign of troubled breathing during sleep. The louder the snoring sound, the narrower the opening in the throat.

Is snoring common?

Yes! Snoring is a common phenomenon which has existed for as long as people have slept. Calculations concerning the frequency of snoring show, it is so common, that there is a snorer in nearly every second home. Men are more frequent snorers than women. This difference is equalized during the years. Studies show that approximately 42% of the population snores and of this 60% are male and 40% female. Snoring is often described as Social Snoring. A more serious condition is called Sleep Apnoea, which only affects 2% of the population. Asonor is NOT intended for the treatment of Sleep Apnea. If you think you may have Sleep Apnea, consult a physician immediately! Snoring may result in a decrease in quality of life.

Snoring can disturb a good nights sleep!

When you snore, your breathing becomes irregular. When sleeping this can cause a pause in breathing. These pauses can last up till 10 seconds and can be repeated many times during the night. You may not yourself notice these pauses, but your sleep has been disturbed. This means that your body does not get the rest it needs. The result is that you are tired when you wake up, which is not good for your health. Research shows that snorers have an increased risk of suffering from various illnesses such as high blood pressure, coronary and brain hemorrhage.

How do I use Asonor?

You should use Asonor every evening before going to bed. Please avoid eating, drinking or brushing your teeth after taking Asonor, as this will reduce the effectiveness of the product. Tilt your head back and pump into each nostril until you can feel the solution in your throat. Usually, 3 to 4 pumps in each nostril are sufficient. The liquid solution should not remain in the nose, as the benefits of the solution begin working once it can be felt in the throat. (This may trigger a brief cough reflex, but that is normal) The pump has been designed to deliver a "jet-stream" of the solution rather than a spray or atomization (which other nose drops products use) to avoid the solution staying in the nose. Generally, Asonor should be effective from the first night, but in rare cases the benefits may not be experienced for up to 14 days after beginning of use.

How long will the effect last?

With 3 to 4 pumps in each nostril before going to bed, the benefits of the treatment will normally begin to abate after 7 to 8 hours. If the benefit starts to abate earlier or you need to prolong the effect, increase the dosage to 4-5 pumps in each nostril.

What are the side effects of using Asonor?

There are no known side effects or drug interactions linked to the use Asonor. It is safe for everyday use.

I am pregnant, can I use Asonor during my pregnancy and while breastfeeding?

Yes, everyone can use the product as directed.

Why should I do something about my snoring?

There are many good reasons for this. First, it probably bothers the ones who have to listen to it at night! Secondly, it is detrimental to your health. International studies show that snorers can have a reduced quality of life, due to migraines, headaches, cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure and decreased sexual function. The health risks of snoring could even potentially lead to a shortened lifespan.

How does Asonor work?

Asonor effectively removes the cause of snoring. It is an easy and simple treatment, which relieves you from many if the nuisances snoring causes. Asonor lubricates and softens the mucous membranes in the throat, whilst also slightly tightening the musculature in the throat. This means that breathing becomes easy and unobstructed, and furthermore prevents the dry mouth that many snorers complain about in the morning.

Will my snoring resume if I stop using Asonor?

Yes, most likely.

Why does Asonor not work on me?

Asonor works for approximately 3 out of 4 people. If Asonor does not work, it could be that you use the product incorrectly. To make sure you are using it correctly, read the "How do I use Asonor?" paragraph. If Asonor still does not work, it is recommended to visit a doctor, as your snoring can be caused by other factors other than normal snoring. The snoring can be due to a cold, an anatomical irregularity in the nose or throat, or in more serious cases Sleep Apnea. In these cases Asonor is not recommended or intended for use.
